Michael Molnar

Michael Molnar is the founder of MPM Essentials, bringing 30 years of experience helping educators build the capacity to serve all students—particularly multilingual learners—through responsive, research-based instruction.

A Strategic, Integrative Approach

Michael's approach to professional learning is both strategic and practical. He begins every partnership with discovery—understanding what districts have already invested in and identifying where ML-responsive instruction can amplify those investments rather than compete with them.

"We're not reinventing the wheel," he explains. "We're upgrading the tires."

This means making explicit connections between responsive instruction for multilingual learners and the frameworks, tools, and initiatives districts have already built. The result is coherence instead of initiative fatigue, and amplification instead of replacement.

Experience That Spans the Full Spectrum

Before founding MPM Essentials, Michael worked across the full teacher development pipeline—from classroom teacher to district administrator, from preparing pre-service teachers to supporting veterans.

As an ESL teacher in Lynn Public Schools, he worked directly with multilingual learners in an urban district. He later served as Assistant Director of Language Support and eventually as a building principal, giving him both classroom and administrative perspectives on what makes professional learning effective.

Michael coordinated the new teacher mentoring program at the secondary level in Lynn, where he trained mentors and developed blended professional learning for first-year teachers—including career-changers entering education through non-traditional pathways.

As an in-district instructor for Research for Better Teaching (RBT), Michael delivered research-based professional learning in general pedagogy. He later developed and taught a graduate-level course titled Skillful Teaching of English Language Learners, bridging general instructional excellence with ML-specific strategies.

Michael also served as an adjunct professor at Gordon College, where he taught both ESL majors and general education majors preparing to work with diverse learners.

This breadth of experience—spanning classroom teaching, district leadership, new teacher support, and higher education—allows Michael to help districts create professional learning that is both strategically sound and practically useful for teachers at every stage of their careers.

Partnerships and Collaboration

Michael has partnered with urban and suburban school districts across Massachusetts, as well as collaborating with national educational organizations such as Modern Classrooms Project and The Equity Imperative.

These partnerships reflect his commitment to meeting districts where they are, building on what they've already invested in, and creating professional learning that is relevant, connected, and effective.

Educational Background

  • Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (CAGS) in Educational Leadership - Salem State University
  • Master's in ESL - UMass-Boston

Core Philosophy

"I believe that nothing can replace a well-informed, skillful teacher. When educators move beyond good intentions and expand their capacity to set and maintain high standards and expectations for all students—especially multilingual learners—we see remarkable growth. Effective professional learning should empower teachers with both the knowledge and practical strategies to make this vision a reality in every classroom."

Outside the Office

When not designing professional learning experiences, Michael enjoys listening to music and reading all things Tolkien—a passion for world-building and complex systems that perhaps isn't so different from designing coherent professional learning ecosystems.

He also loves spending time with his family, including his two rescue pups, Callie and Macie.
